But as Janie Johnson glanced at the face of the ordinary little girl with her hair in tight pigtails, wearing a dress with a narrow white collar -- a three year old who had been kidnapped twelve years before from a shopping mall in New Jersey - she felt overcome with shock. She recognized that little girl - it was she. How could it possibly be true? Janie can't believe that her loving parents kidnapped her, but as she begins to piece things together, nothing makes sense. Something is terribly wrong. Are Mr. and Mrs. Johnson really Janie's parents? And if not, who is Janie Johnson and what really happened?

Hidden until now in the pages of her diary, Mary's startling story begins in 1659, the year her beloved grandmother is hanged in the public square as a witch. Mary narrowly escapes a similar fate, only to face intolerance and new danger among the Puritans in the New World. How long can she hide her true identity? Will she ever find a place where her healing powers will not be feared?

Practice for what? Tara asked. For the upcoming disaster that was bound to happen? Then, at age 11, it happened. Tara heard the phrase that changed her life. "Step on a crack, break your mother's back." Before Tara knew it, she was counting every crack in the sidewalk. Over time, Tara's 'quirks' grew and developed; arranging her meals on plates, nonstop prayer rituals, until she developed a new ritual where she kissed her fingers and touched doorknobs..."
