A pastime for everyone...
A Note from the Author...

Digging to America was a particular pleasure to write because so much of it came as a surprise to me.  I thought it was a story about adoption.  It dawned on me only gradually that it was also a story about the ways that all of us struggle to achieve some sort of membership, whether in a family, or a community of friends, or a country.

So it makes me very happy to know that an entire city is reading this book.  I hope you all enjoy it, and that the experience serves to make the citizens of Methuen feel a little more connected to one another. -- Anne Tyler.
