Adult Programs
Book Discussions - Join us as we discuss our Methuen Reads title, Digging to America, by Anne Tyler. Discussions will be held at the Library on the following dates:

Taped Book Discussion - Want to know what all the hype is about? Catch our taped book discussion on Methuen Cable Television! Runs throughout the months of February and March.
Adoption Program - Anyone interested in learning about the adoption process in Massachusetts is encouraged to join us on March 5th at 7:00 pm in the Garden Room. We will be joined by professionals from the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange. Professionals from Department of Child Welfare will be telling us about children who are currently up for adoption in the state.
Understanding Islam - Nancy Khalil, a scholar from Harvard University's Islamic Studies Department, will join us for a discussion of Islam in America and on cultural identity. This program will meet on March 17th at 7:00 pm in the Garden Room.
Citizenship Day - The staff of the Nevins Memorial Library are honored to be able to host a swearing-in day for those who are becoming United States Citizens. Space will be limited for this event. March 26th at 11:00 am.
Family Memories - A book-making workshop with artist Susan Gaylord Kapuscinski. Create a hand-sewn book to hold a family memory... an heirloom gift for a child, relative, friend or parent. All materials supplied; you bring the memories. April 5th from 9:00 am - noon in the Garden Room.
Children's Programs - Registration Required
Come Celebrate Chinese New Year! - February 7th at 11:00 am. (3 - 5 yr olds). Come learn about this important Chinese celebration with special stories, games, and a simple craft.
Author Visit by Rose Lewis - February 12th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. School children attending the Methuen Public Schools and Private Schools will be invited to attend this program. K to 2nd grade. Some schools will be provided with busing. This program is being sponsored by the Methuen Cultural Council, a local agency for the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Let's Explore Korea - February 13th at 11:00 am. (3 - 5 yr. olds). Come learn about Korean culture with special stories, games, and a simple craft.
Let's Explore China - February 25th (K to 3gr) at 6:30 pm. Come learn about Chinese culture with special stories, games and simple crafts.
Korean Folk Tales & Craft Night - February 28th at 6:30 pm. (K to 3rd grade).
Tell Us Your Story - Saturday, March 1st at 10:00 am. Local author Kevin Redman will read his book about the adoption of his son John. He will also have a brief question and answer period about his book. During the second portion of the program, family members will work together to create their own storybook of a family event to pass down as a keepsake drawing their own illustrations and brief entries.
Nevins Ink - March 15th at 2:00 pm. The Children will explore their family trees and write autobiographical poems.
The Dragon King - March 20th at 5:30 pm. Presented by Tanglewood Puppets for families with children in Kindergarten - 6th grade. Funded by the 21st century Community Learning Center Grant.
Book Chatters - Tuesday, March 25th. (4th to 6th grade). Kimchi and Calamari by Rose Kent. Adopted from Korea by Italian parents, fourteen- year old Joseph Calderado begins to make important self-discoveries about race and family after his social studies teacher assigns an essay on cultural heritage and tracing the past.
Let's Explore Korea - March 26th at 6:30 pm. (K to 6th grade). Please join us for a cultural tour of Korea, presented by Mrs. Younga Gibson. Come learn about everyday life in Korea, see examples of traditional dress, hear some traditional music, and sample some common food items; savory and sweet.
