The Inter Library Loan. Patrons are now able to place their own requests either at the library or from a remote computer. If you are at home or at any computer outside the library, simply type in the URL: www.mvlc.org . From that screen choose MVLC Catalog (via the web). At the next screen you must choose one specific library. At this point you will now be in the catalog. After your search, you may place a request for a material by clicking on the purple square that state "place request." (Remember that reference books do not circulate). Another screen will appear at which you must enter the library at which you wish to pick up your materials, your full library barcode and your pin number (which is the last four digits of your telephone number). Your library card needs to be in good standing in order to place requests. It really is easier than it sounds. If you have any questions, please call the Reference Desk or come in for quick instructions.
If you hate the new system or just need help in locating materials, just ask a librarian and we will be happy to assist. If you need the material immediately and would like to go directly to an owning library, we would be happy to call and place that book on reserve for you.
If materials are not available within the Merrimack Valley Consortium, the Reference Staff will be happy to process an Interlibrary Loan for you and attempt to borrow it from another Network. This may add an additional day or two to your wait. If the item is not available via another Network, we will then attempt to borrow it via OCLC (across the country). You will be notified before this process is completed. Wait time for OCLC requests is unpredictable. While we make every effort to obtain items requested, sometimes an item is unattainable or has use restrictions.
If you need an item sooner, you are welcome to go directly to that library to borrow the book using your Nevins Memorial library card. It is advisable that you call that library before going to confirm that they actually have the book on shelf and ask them to reserve it for you. We also have several thousand books available via Netlibrary for use on any computer. Please call the desk or follow the link for assistance.
There is no charge for reserves or interlibrary loans. Interlibrary Loan requests may be placed at the Reference, Children's or Main Desk.
