Internet Policy
A copy of the Nevins Memorial Library Internet Policy is available at the Reference Desk. All patrons using the Internet are required to read and sign the Internet Policy before use. All patrons accompanying another ( just sitting or watching) must read and sign and Internet Policy and are subject to the same terms of the Internet Policy. All patrons under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian sign this form in the presence of a Reference Librarian. Children 10 or under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Internet User Guidelines:
1. All persons wishing to use a computer must read and sign this Acceptable Use Policy and present some form of identification. A sticker will be placed on your ID for future computer use. This ID must be presented before every session.
2. Patrons under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian read and sign this policy in the presence of a librarian before they may use a computer. Parents are responsible for their children and their use of the computers. Children age ten and under must be accompanied by an adult while in the library and on the computers.
3. All federal, state, and local laws regarding computer use must be followed Display of materials from sites that may be deemed obscene and/or unlawful under federal or state statues (Massachusetts General Laws 27:28 et seq.) is forbidden. Patrons are reminded that the library�s computer terminals are located in public areas that are shared with library users and staff of all ages, backgrounds and sensibilities. Individuals are expected to consider this diversity and respect the sensibilities of others when accessing potentially offensive information or images. You may not send, receive or display text or graphics that may reasonably be construed as obscene by any local, state or federal laws. The deliberate display of obscene materials is prohibited as a violation of Massachusetts General Law.
4. No food, drink or cell phones are allowed at the computers.
5. One-sided, black and white printing is available for 15 cents per copy.
6. Only two persons are allowed at one computer. All persons at a computer must have an ID and have signed the Acceptable Use Policy.
7. Patrons may download to a floppy disk or flash drive. Documents may not be saved on the library�s computers.
8. Computer use is limited to 1 hour when other patrons are waiting for the computer. Maximum use is 2 hours per day.
Users May Not:
1. Damage equipment; alter setup of computers in any way.
2. Install or run personal software.
3. Use Chat Rooms.
The Nevins Memorial Library does NOT:
- Guarantee privacy or confidentiality.
- Guarantee access.
- Guarantee Internet information to be accurate, complete or current.
- Provide one-on-one patron assistance beyond a basic introduction.
- Take responsibility for damage to personal disks or other computers.
- Take responsibility for technology failures, patron error or Internet content.
Library staff will intercede when this policy is violated and violators will be given a verbal warning. If the offensive behavior continues, the violator will be asked to leave. Violation of this policy may result in discipline including, but not limited to, loss of access to the computers and, in appropriate cases, exclusion for the library and payment of damage. When and where applicable, law enforcement agencies may become involved.
