Literacy Volunteers of Methuen
Literacy Volunteers of Methuen provide free, private, flexible, and individualized instruction to adults in the community who want to learn to speak and read English, or are struggling with basic reading and language. The Nevins Library has partnered with the Methuen Adult Learning Center and the Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts to develop this opportunity as an alternative to classroom programs—ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Adult Basic Education (ABE)—which can have long waiting lists.

How to Become a Tutor
Volunteers must be high school graduates or equivalent, and fluent English speakers. While previous teaching experience and foreign language abilities are a bonus, they are not required.

Contact Grace Spaulding at 978-686-4080, ext. 32 or email her at literacy@nevinslibrary.org for more information or to schedule a brief interview. All new tutors attend an orientation and training sessions.
