How to download & stream free videos on your mobile device, computer, or TV!
1. First register for a Kanopy account by visiting kanopy.com, or by using the mobile app on your iOS or Android device (you can do it in the TV app too, but, it’s harder). You will need to provide an email address, create a password, and have your library card number ready. Their free mobile app can be found in the App Store and the Google Play store (Links below if you’re viewing this on your device).
2. Go to Get Started and then Find Your Library. You’ll be able to find Nevins Library by either enabling Location on your device, or searching for your library by name, city, or zip code.
3. Select your library’s name from the list or map, then click Select this library.
4. Enter your library card number and PIN or password. Then, select Continue.
5. It will then ask you to create a Kanopy account. Enter your name, email address, and password, then select Sign up. Or, you can sign up with an existing Apple or Google account by selecting Sign Up with Apple or Sign Up with Google and following the instructions.
6. Then, you’re in. You can view your library’s curated lists of films on the Home tab, browse by Category or use Search to look for specific titles. (Also, a note, on Kanopy, TV serieses are simply called ‘Series’).
7. Once you’ve decided on your movie. Select it (by tapping or clicking on its card/picture). It will bring you to a page with all its info including how long you have to watch it and how many tickets it takes to watch it. You can tap on the (usually) orange play button to begin streaming.
8. Things you watch use Tickets. Each month you receive a set number of tickets and each movie/documentary/TV episode will cost differing amounts of tickets (an older less well known movie, two tickets, a newer and more in demand movie, five tickets).
9. Unfinished movies appear in My Lists alongside titles you add to your Watchlist. Borrowed titles will be automatically returned when your lending period is over. There are no holds, wait lists, or late fees for any of Kanopy’s content.
10. If you need additional help, please give us a call, 978-686-4080 x12, send us an email nevinsref@nevinslibrary.org, or stop by the Reference Desk. You can also get help via Kanopy by visiting the help section on the mobile app, or clicking on the help link found at the bottom of the Kanopy home page.
