NEW Parent Workshop: Children's Online Resources- March 11th and 18th at 11:00 am, or March 20th at 10:00 am.  It's school project time!  Parents of children in 3rd to 6th grade are invited to attend an introductory workshop on how to use the Children's online resources available on our website.  These resources will help make it easier to collect information needed for a wide range of projects on any computer with an Internet connection.  Please bring your library card to the session.  The barcode is used to gain access to the online resources.

Animal Adventures Presents: Animals from Around the World - March 4th at 4:15 pm.  For families with children in grades K to 6.  Come meet the animals, hear interesting stories and information about them, and get an up-close look!  Some of the animals are the South American Coati, a Kinkajou, a Ring-Tailed Lemur, an African Desert Fox, Wallaby and Binturong and more.  Please register for this event online or by calling the Children's Department.

Babies and Books - A program designed to promote early literacy through rhymes, songs, and stories read aloud (30 minutes).  At the end of the program, we have a meet & greet time for all of the parents (30 minutes).  We welcome babies and toddlers up to age two and their caregivers.  This special time will also introduce caregivers to the range of books, music, and videos available for you to share with your little one at home.  Big brothers and sisters are welcome to join us and "help out."  Meets Tuesday mornings, March 9th at 16th at 11:00 am, and Friday m ornings, March 12th, 19th and 26th at 11:00 am. No registration required.
Keith Michael Johnson Presents: Science Isn't Always Pretty - March 11th at 4:15 pm.  For families with children in grades K to 4.  Why? How? Curiousity.  Investigation.  That's what science is all about.  Why would Sir Isaac Newton be shocked by Silly Putty?  Why are owl droppings so fascinating?  Come discover the answers to these questions and many others.  You are invited to see this humorous, interactive program that makes science come alive.  Please register for this event online or by calling the Children's Department.

Book Chatters - Tuesday, March 16th at 7:00 pm for 4th to 6th graders.  Join us for free choice month.  Please be ready to share any book you wish with the group.  Refreshments will be served.  To get a copy of the book and get more details, please contact the Children's Department at extnesion 26.
Wonderful Wednesday - Tuesday, march 17th at 6:30 pm (Grades K to 3).  Come join us for stories, games, and a craft activity!  This month's theme features stories about Leprechaun Magic.
Science Quest: Be A Chemistry Sleuth - 4th and 6th grade.  Tuesday, March 17th afrom 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  Some foods contain starch.  We will find out which foods in our survey do, using an instant chemistry test.  We will also make a sharpie marker tie dyed square using our knowledge of diffusion and solvents.   Space is limitied. Registration is required.

Science Quest: Parent/ Child Field Trip - 5th and 6th grade.  Saturday, March 20th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Come with us to the New England Think Fest sponsored by Merrimack College in North Andover.  This is a hands-on festival celebrating engineering and science.  We will work as a team doing some of the design challenges.  The admission and bus transportation is free of charge.  Participants must provide their own lunch.  To register for this event, please contact the Children's Department at extension 26.

Donuts with Dad - Saturday, March 27th from 9:30 am to 10:15 am.  Children ages 3-6 and their fathers are invited to join us for a fun story and activity time with an added bonus of sweet, yummy donuts and juice!


Roots Music Collective Presents: The Roots of American Music - March 31st at 4:15 pm.  Open to families with children in 3rd to 6th grade.  This interactive performance illustrates how the music of early African Americans evolved from work songs and spirituals, and led to blues, jazz, country and eventually rock. The program culminates in a group songwriting experiment as the musicians take suggestions from the student audience to create an original work.
